Why have a leg lift?

The decision to undergo thigh lift surgery is a deeply personal one and is usually based on physiological changes in the body. Following significant weight loss, pregnancy or as a result of the body’s natural ageing process, it is common for a noticeable amount of loose skin to develop on the thighs. This loose tissue can lead to functional difficulties in everyday life, such as painful chafing when you move. Many patients choose to undergo the procedure for their own well-being and to regain more functional and firmer thighs. We focus entirely on your unique circumstances to design a realistic plan based on your anatomy.

Our techniques for bone grafting

We use tried-and-tested, safe surgical techniques to ensure the highest possible level of patient safety at all times. During a leg lift, the surgical technique is tailored entirely to the amount of excess tissue and loose skin on your legs.

Thigh lift

This is the most common method used for thigh lift surgery. The procedure aims to effectively remove excess skin from the thighs, particularly on the inner thighs. The incisions are carefully placed in the natural groin crease to lift the thighs in a stable manner. In more extensive thigh lifts, the scars are positioned along the inner thighs.

Combined leg lift and liposuction

In cases where, in addition to loose skin, there are also deeper deposits of fat on the thighs, we often choose to combine skin reduction with thigh liposuction. This is done to preserve the natural contours of the tissue, optimise the shape of the legs and help you get rid of fat on the thighs that does not respond to exercise.

The very first step in the process is a personal consultation with a plastic surgery specialist. You can choose whether to book an online initial consultation or meet us in person at our clinic in Stockholm. During the consultation, we will examine your bones, analyse your skin’s elasticity and provide you with medical information regarding risks, the expected course of treatment and current waiting times.

The Evolution of You

Leg surgery: Step by step

To ensure you feel confident and well prepared throughout your treatment journey, we have a clear and reliable process in place, from your very first visit right through to your final follow-up appointment at the clinic.

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

You will meet with a plastic surgery specialist who will carry out a clinical examination of your legs and measure the amount of loose skin on your thighs. Together, you will discuss surgical techniques, and the surgeon will explain where your future scars will be located and whether liposuction is required to achieve a smooth, natural contour based on your individual circumstances.

Before your treatment

Preparing for a safe operation

Our coordinator will contact you and provide clear instructions, which include the requirement that you must completely abstain from smoking and nicotine for at least four weeks before and after the operation to ensure proper wound healing. On the evening before and on the morning of the operation, you should shower using antibacterial soap.

The day of the operation

Safe care at the clinic

At the clinic, you will be looked after and asked to change into a hospital gown before meeting your plastic surgeon and anaesthetist. The surgical area will be carefully marked out and we will take photographs for your medical records. The operation itself is performed under general anaesthesia in our hospital-standard operating theatres and normally takes between two and three hours.

After the operation

Awakening and initial rest

You will wake up in our specialist recovery unit, where our team will monitor you continuously. It is perfectly normal to experience significant swelling, tightness and tenderness in your legs during the first 24 hours. You will be given tailored pain relief to manage this discomfort, and depending on the extent of the operation, you will stay overnight at the clinic.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

At home, a couple of weeks of strict rest are required. Strenuous physical exertion, heavy lifting and activities that raise your heart rate should be avoided completely so as not to interfere with wound and tissue healing. You will wear a specially fitted compression garment around the clock for the first few weeks to effectively reduce swelling. Most people can return to sedentary work after two to three weeks.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

Around one to two weeks after your operation, you will see a nurse for an initial check-up to assess the healing process and the condition of the wound, and to remove any stitches. After about six months, you will be booked in for a follow-up appointment with your surgeon for a final check-up, during which we will assess the final result and take final medical photographs.

Results of bone grafting

The primary aim of a thigh lift is to remove excess loose skin and tighten the skin on the thighs where it has lost its elasticity. The final anatomical result can only be assessed once all internal swelling has completely subsided and the operated tissue has softened, which normally takes between six months and a year.

Our specialists in bone reconstruction

At The Faculty, we have assembled a hand-picked team of plastic surgeons, several of whom are among the most experienced in body contouring and reconstructive surgery in the Nordic region. Every cosmetic surgical procedure is performed by a specialist surgeon with extensive expertise, which forms the basis for your medical safety throughout your stay with us.

Who is eligible for bone grafting?

To be eligible for thigh lift surgery, you must be over 18 and in good general health. The procedure is primarily intended for people who have loose skin on their thighs following weight loss, pregnancy or as a result of natural ageing, and whose weight has been completely stable for at least six months. During your consultation with the surgeon, a full medical assessment of your physical condition will be carried out. It is an absolute requirement that you are completely smoke-free in the run-up to the operation to minimise the risk of future thigh lift complications.

Risks associated with bone grafting

As with all surgical procedures, there are inherent risks involved. General surgical risks include bleeding, infection, wound dehiscence or uneven skin healing. Specific to thigh lift or leg lift surgery, there is a risk of temporary fluid build-up (seroma) under the skin, which in some cases needs to be drained at the clinic. There is also a risk of changes in sensation in the skin on the inner thighs, which usually subsides but in rare cases may become permanent. The surgeon will go through all potential complications in detail during your consultation.

Other procedures in cosmetic surgery

In addition to leg lifts, our specialists at The Faculty offer a wide range of other body contouring procedures. If you have loose skin in other areas, for example following weight loss, a tummy tuck (for loose skin on the stomach) or an arm lift (for sagging skin on the arms, for example) may be considered. We will help you find the right way forward based on your unique physiological circumstances.

What does a bone graft involve?

A thigh lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and tissue from the legs, primarily in the form of a thigh lift on the inner thighs. The procedure is performed to tighten the thighs and create a smoother contour where the skin has lost its natural elasticity. Depending on your anatomy, the incision is tailored entirely to your individual needs. During your consultation, we will carefully go through how your body is affected and how the operation is broadly designed to meet your expectations.

Frequently asked questions about bone grafting

Here we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions about bone grafting.

What is the difference between calf lift surgery and thigh lift surgery?

Leg lift is the general medical term for plastic surgery procedures performed to remove excess skin and tissue from the legs. In practice, this almost always refers to a thigh lift (also known as a thigh lift), as it is on the inner thighs that loose skin mainly accumulates.

How much does a leg lift cost?

The price for a thigh lift starts at 55,000 SEK. If the procedure is combined with liposuction to remove fat from the thighs, the price starts from SEK 65,000. You will always receive an exact quote following a clinical assessment during your consultation with the surgeon.

Is it possible to have liposuction on the stomach after pregnancy?

Yes, tummy tucks following pregnancy are a common procedure to address stubborn pockets of fat that have not disappeared. However, it is important to wait until the body has fully recovered and your weight has stabilised.

Is it possible to combine a thigh lift with thigh liposuction?

Yes, it is very common to combine these procedures. If a patient has residual fat deposits under the skin combined with excess skin, a combined procedure is often the most suitable option. By incorporating thigh liposuction during the same operation, the surgeon can more effectively help you get rid of fat on your thighs and create a smoother physiological transition where the skin is then tightened and removed.
