What does a chin augmentation using fillers involve?

A chin filler is a non-surgical injection treatment in which a firm, structural hyaluronic acid is injected deep beneath the skin towards the chin bone. The aim is to restore volume, increase the projection of the chin forwards or downwards, and contour the lower third of the face. As hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the body that integrates with your tissue, it creates a very natural anatomical result that balances your proportions without requiring traditional plastic surgery involving implants.

Our approach to chin fillers

To achieve a long-lasting and anatomically correct result, our practitioners use high-density (firm) hyaluronic acid fillers, which are necessary to mimic bone and provide a genuine lift.

Projection and extension

The filler is injected centrally at the tip of the chin to bring the profile forward or create the illusion of a longer face.

Diversity and masculinisation

For men (chin fillers for men), the product is often injected more widely along the base of the chin to create a more square and masculine jawline.

Chin fillers: 1 ml to 2 ml

For a very subtle adjustment or definition, 1 ml of chin filler may be sufficient, but 2 ml or more is often required for patients with a distinctly receding chin in order to create sufficient projection.

Gentle technology and medical precision

Whether the aim is a minor adjustment or a more pronounced balance of the profile, our injection specialists use refined techniques that minimise trauma to the delicate tissue of the chin. By using microscopically thin needles or blunt cannulas, we work with the utmost care. A precise approach is absolutely crucial to reducing bleeding, minimising swelling, and ensuring that your filler is deeply integrated into the bone for a stable and long-lasting result.

Pre-treatment consultation

The first step is a consultation with one of our injection specialists. You can choose whether to book a virtual appointment or meet us in person at the clinic. During the appointment, you will receive medical information about risks, current waiting times, and which techniques and volumes are best suited to you. You will receive a specific treatment proposal based on your facial anatomy.

After the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least 48 hours (which applies to aesthetic injection treatments) to allow you to decide in your own time whether you wish to give your consent.

The Evolution of You

Injection in the chin
Step by step

To ensure you feel completely at ease and know exactly what to expect, we have a strict and safe procedure in place for our injection treatments

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

Your practitioner will carry out a thorough clinical assessment of your bone structure, jaw muscles and facial profile. We will determine the dosage (how many millilitres are required) and go through your health declaration.

Preparations

Preparing for a safe operation

We will check that you have not taken any blood-thinning medication (such as paracetamol or omega-3) in the last few days. Your chin and jawline will then be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with chlorhexidine to ensure a sterile working area.

The treatment

Safe care at the clinic

The filler, which contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine), is injected deep into the area around the chin using a needle or a blunt cannula. This creates an immediate projection. As the chin can be a tense area, you may feel a slight tightness, but the pain is minimal. The procedure takes approximately 15–30 minutes.

After treatment

Awakening and initial rest

The practitioner will massage and shape the filler to ensure perfect symmetry. You will be able to see the shape in the mirror, and we will discuss the expected swelling.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

Avoid touching the insertion sites with unwashed hands and do not wear make-up for 12 hours. Also avoid intense exercise, saunas and extreme cold for the first 48 hours to minimise swelling. It is also important not to rest your face heavily on your hands during the first few days.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

After around 14 days, the filler will have integrated with the tissue. The final, anatomically balanced result will then be assessed during a follow-up appointment, if required.

Results following jaw augmentation

The results of your treatment are visible immediately, but it is very important to understand the body’s natural healing process. Immediately after the treatment, it is perfectly normal for the chin to be swollen, feel firm and be tender to the touch. The skin over the chin is tight, which means that initial swelling may make the chin appear temporarily wider or larger than the actual final result. Within the next two weeks, the swelling will subside completely, and the hyaluronic acid will soften and integrate with your tissue for a smooth and natural result.

Our specialists in injections

At The Faculty, all filler treatments are carried out exclusively by qualified doctors and qualified injection nurses. The chin area contains strong muscles (the mentalis) and several vascular structures. Our specialists possess in-depth anatomical knowledge and extensive clinical experience in facial contouring, which is crucial for placing the filler in exactly the right tissue layer, thereby guaranteeing both a beautiful result and absolute patient safety.

Who can undergo the treatment?

To undergo an injection treatment, you must be at least 18 years old, in good general health and have no active infections (such as herpes) in the treatment area. We do not perform injection treatments on patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. During your consultation, we will ensure that the procedure is suitable for your anatomy.

Complications and risks

As with all injections, there are medical risks (chin filler risks). The most common are harmless and temporary, such as swelling, a feeling of tightness and bruising. One risk that is sometimes discussed is chin filler migration (the filler moving). This is usually due to over-treatment, superficial placement, or a very strong chin muscle that pushes the product away. By injecting the correct amount, deep into the bone, our specialists significantly minimise this risk. If necessary, the hyaluronic acid can be quickly and safely dissolved using the enzyme Hyalase. Vascular occlusion is a very rare but serious risk, which is why we strictly adhere to medical safety protocols.

Other treatments for profile balancing

A chin augmentation is often the starting point for a comprehensive facial contouring treatment using fillers. As the chin is anatomically linked to the jawbone, the treatment is very often carried out in combination with fillers for the chin and jawline (chin and jawline fillers). By enhancing the entire jawline and chin tip simultaneously, the skin under the chin is often lifted, reducing the appearance of a double chin and creating a strong, defined frame for the face. Sometimes we also recommend a Botox injection into the chin muscle (Mentalis) to prevent the muscle from pulling up the newly injected filler.

Why consider chin fillers?

Facial proportions are largely determined by the balance between the forehead, nose and chin. Many patients feel that, when viewed from the side, they have a receding chin (sometimes referred to as a weak chin or the feeling that they have ‘no chin’ at all). Through a weak chin treatment (receding chin fillers), volume can be injected to move the tip of the chin forward, which immediately creates harmony in the face and often makes the nose appear smaller. Others seek treatment to achieve a more pointed chin (V-shape), fill in a hollow in the chin (cleft chin filler) or to reduce shadows around the chin area (chin shadow filler). The motivation behind chin augmentation with fillers is highly individual, and we always take your unique bone structure into account.

Frequently asked questions about fillers

Here we have compiled some frequently asked questions about chin augmentation using fillers

How long do the results last?

As the chin filler is injected deep beneath the muscle and consists of a very firm form of hyaluronic acid (often with a high G-prime), the results last exceptionally well. The results usually last between 12 and 18 months, and sometimes up to two years, before being gradually broken down by the body.

Do I need 1 ml or 2 ml in the chin?

It depends entirely on your starting point. If you already have good projection and simply want a ‘sharper chin’ when viewed from the front, 1 ml may be sufficient. If you have a clearly recessed chin in profile and need to visibly move the tip of the chin forward, 2 ml or more is usually required to create volume and support.

Does the treatment for a cleft chin (cleft chin filler) work?

Yes, a dimple in the chin, which is often genetic, can be softened and smoothed out by carefully injecting hyaluronic acid into the indentation itself./p>

Is chin augmentation (chin filler) common among men?

It is one of our most popular treatments for men. Men usually seek treatment to widen the jawline and create a stronger, more square and defined jawline and chin, which helps to create a masculine appearance.

Can the filler move (chin filler migration)?

When the treatment is performed correctly, deep into the mandible, the risk of migration is very low. However, if too much filler is placed too superficially in the fatty tissue, or if the patient has an extremely overactive chin muscle (mentalis), the filler may shift. We prevent this by placing the filler deeply and, in some cases, using muscle relaxants.

What is the difference between profile balancing and hook enlargement?

Chin augmentation involves injecting the chin only. Profile balancing involves the surgeon or injection specialist analysing your entire face (nose, lips, chin and jawline) in profile, and using fillers to create a harmonious line from the forehead down to the tip of the chin.

Does it hurt to lift your chin?

Most people find this one of the least painful areas to treat. The skin over the chin may feel a little tight as the filler expands, but as the filler contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine), the area quickly goes numb. We also often use blunt needles, which cause minimal discomfort.
