What is Nano Brows?

What does the treatment involve from a clinical perspective? Nano Brows is an advanced form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing. Using a digital machine and an ultra-fine needle – sometimes as thin as a real hair – pigment is injected superficially into the skin (into the upper dermis). The needle moves up and down extremely quickly, causing it to ‘dot’ the pigment into the skin and create microscopic lines that look like natural hairs.

Our methods for cosmetic eyebrow tattooing

Techniques in permanent make-up are constantly evolving. To create the illusion of real hair, we use the most advanced and precise method available on the market.

Nano Brows

Unlike older, manual methods, we use a digital PMU machine equipped with an extremely fine needle (often referred to as a nano-needle). The machine implants the pigment into the skin with gentle, rapid movements to create hyper-realistic nano strokes that mimic real hairs.

Gentle approach

A cornerstone of our business is an uncompromising respect for the skin’s barrier and its various layers. As the digital needle works with incredible precision and speed in the very top layer of the skin (upper dermis), it causes minimal mechanical trauma compared to a cutting hand tool. This methodical and gentle approach significantly reduces the risk of bleeding, which in turn prevents the ink from bleeding out. The result is that each individual hair remains sharp, heals faster and fades evenly over time.

The Evolution of You

Nano Brows
Step by step

We follow a rigorous clinical process from diagnosis to recovery, designed to maximise effectiveness and ensure your safety.

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

You will meet with your PMU specialist for an analysis of your specific skin condition. Using a thread and specialised measuring tools (brow mapping), we will sketch out a framework that perfectly balances your facial features. We select a pigment that harmonises with your skin’s undertone, and the design must always be approved by you.

Before your treatment

Preparations for safe treatment

To minimise the risk of bleeding, which could otherwise cause the pigment to be forced out of the skin, you must not consume alcohol, coffee or blood-thinning medication (such as paracetamol) for 24 hours beforehand. The area must also not be sunburnt.

The day of treatment

Safe care at the clinic

The skin above the eyebrows is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. To ensure the procedure is as comfortable and pain-free as possible, we usually apply a topical anaesthetic cream a short while before the machine starts working.

After treatment

Awakening and initial rest

The specialist uses the digital PMU machine. With extreme precision, microscopic lines are created in the skin, which are immediately filled with pigment. The machine builds up the eyebrow hair by hair in the direction of your natural growth. The appointment at the clinic, including the consultation, takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

Superficial healing usually takes 7 to 14 days. The eyebrows will darken, feel stiff and will then start to flake. Your aftercare is absolutely crucial: you must keep the area dry initially, and strictly avoid sweaty exercise, chlorinated swimming pools, sunbathing and any form of make-up on the eyebrows until the scabs have fallen off naturally. Never pick at the eyebrows.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

It is physiologically normal for the skin to shed up to 30–50 per cent of the pigment during the first few weeks. For this reason, a follow-up appointment is always scheduled for approximately 4–8 weeks later. At this appointment, we will top up any pigment that may have faded and refine the final shape.

Results of Nano Brows

Creating natural-looking hairs with pigment is a process. In the first few days, your eyebrows will look very dark and defined. After that, the skin will start to flake, and for a while the tattoo may look far too pale. This is a normal physiological reaction before the final colour stabilises. The result is semi-permanent and the pigment will be broken down naturally by your body. Most people find that the colour lasts beautifully for between one and three years before a touch-up is needed.

Our specialists

When you receive treatment at The Faculty, you are looked after by specialists with rigorous training in cosmetic tattooing and the anatomy of the skin. Creating realistic hair strokes over the underlying musculature of the eyebrow requires a keen aesthetic eye and a steady hand. This collective expertise ensures that your procedure is carried out with the utmost safety.

Who can undergo the treatment?

This method is intended for healthy individuals over the age of 18. A major advantage of nanotechnology is that, unlike manual microblading, it works extremely well on virtually all skin types, including oily skin, with a very low risk of the pigment bleeding. However, we do not perform the treatment on patients with active eczema in the eyebrows, autoimmune diseases, a tendency to develop severe keloid scars, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Risks and complications

There are always risks involved when we penetrate the skin barrier. Normal, harmless reactions include temporary redness, mild swelling and noticeable itching as the skin heals. If the hygiene guidelines for aftercare are not followed at home, there is a risk of bacterial infections. Our clinical methods and sterile disposable needles are strictly designed to prevent this and ensure complication-free healing.

Other treatments

Defining the eyebrows often gives the face a noticeable lift, but sometimes our patients want a more comprehensive solution. If the asymmetry in your brows is primarily due to overactive forehead muscles, muscle-relaxing injections can often be a medically sensible step to relax the area before we tattoo the shape. If you’d also like to give your lips a soft, natural colour, our Lip Blush treatment is a fantastic complement.

Why consider Nano Brows?

The decision to enhance one’s facial features is always a personal one. Many patients come to us to restore the shape of sparse eyebrows, fill in areas where hair has stopped growing, or to correct natural asymmetry. Others simply appreciate the freedom of waking up with perfectly shaped brows every day. We do not judge your motives. Our primary mission is to use a detailed and objective analysis of your bone structure to achieve a result that harmoniously balances your unique features.

Frequently Asked Questions about Nano Brows and Healing

Frequently asked questions and answers about Nano Brows and Healing

What is the actual difference between nano brows and microblading?

This is the most common question patients ask when choosing a method. Microblading uses a manual hand tool with a small blade to etch, or cut, the pigment into the skin. Nano Brows uses a digital machine with a needle that quickly deposits the pigment without cutting. The nano-needle causes less trauma to the skin, results in less bleeding and produces hair strokes that remain sharper over time, particularly on oily skin.

When I’m deciding between nano brows and microblading, which should I choose if I have oily skin?

If you have oily skin, large pores or skin that bleeds easily, you should definitely opt for Nano Brows (or the Powder Brows shading technique). This is because microblading on oily skin has a strong physiological tendency to expand, causing the strokes to spread and become blurred during the healing process. The machine technique (nano) is much more stable.

Does the treatment hurt?

The experience of pain varies from person to person. As the machine is so gentle, the vast majority of patients find that Nano Brows is significantly less painful than the sharp sensation associated with traditional microblading. Many describe it more as a quick vibrating or tickling sensation, especially after our numbing cream has been applied.

What is the recovery process like, and will I need to take time off work?

You won’t need to take any time off work at all, as there is no recovery period that would prevent you from carrying out your daily tasks. However, your eyebrows will flake and itch for the first 7 to 14 days. It is an absolute medical requirement that you do not touch, scratch or peel off the flaking skin during this period.

Can I use my nano brows serum straight after the treatment?

No. If you are using an eyebrow serum to stimulate your own hair growth, you must stop using it for the entire healing process (approximately 14–21 days). Active serums increase blood circulation and cell renewal, which can irritate the tiny wounds and cause the pigment to be expelled from the skin prematurely.

Do I need to shave my eyebrows before the treatment?

Absolutely not. We want to preserve as much of your own natural hair growth as possible. We adapt the tattooed shape to your existing hair and only pluck or trim the hair that falls outside the new, measured template.

How long do the results of Nano Brows last?

The colour usually lasts between one and three years before it fades. As the machine technique often applies the pigment slightly more evenly than manual tools, many people find that Nano Brows last slightly longer than traditional microblading. Most patients have a touch-up once a year to maintain the colour intensity.
