What does PRP treatment for hair involve?

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. By centrifuging your own blood, we concentrate the platelets, which are packed with natural growth factors and proteins. When these are injected back into your scalp, they act as a powerful biological signal that revives tired hair follicles, extends the hair’s growth phase and increases blood flow to the roots. This makes the method a powerful, natural tool against hair loss.

Our skin improvement methods

We use only evidence-based injection techniques to stimulate the hair follicles. Your specialist will assess which method is medically most suitable for your scalp.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

A tried-and-tested PRP injection for hair, in which we use platelets from your own blood. The plasma is rich in natural growth factors, which are injected into the scalp to stimulate dormant hair follicles and improve blood circulation.

Mesotherapy for hair

This is an excellent complement or alternative, where we inject a bespoke cocktail of vitamins, minerals and amino acids directly into the scalp. Hair mesotherapy provides the roots with exactly the nourishment they need to produce stronger strands of hair.

Gentle approach

A fundamental principle underlying all our scalp injection treatments is a deep respect for the microscopic anatomy of the skin and hair follicles. Whether we are performing PRP or mesotherapy, we use extremely fine micro-needles that deliver the plasma or vitamins to exactly the right depth in the dermis, right where the hair follicle is located.

Pre-treatment consultation

The first step is to book a consultation. During this meeting, we will assess your scalp, discuss your medical history and examine whether your hair follicles are still active. You will receive factual information about the process, the expected PRP hair results and how the treatment programme is structured.

You will receive a specific treatment proposal based on your body. After the consultation, you have a statutory reflection period of at least 48 hours to decide in peace and quiet whether you want to give your consent.

The Evolution of You

PRP treatment
Step by step

We have a structured and reliable process, from your initial consultation right through to the final follow-up, so that you always know what to expect.

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

You will meet with a specialist who will examine your scalp. We will review your medical history to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing your hair loss, and determine whether PRP is the right treatment for you.

Before your treatment

Preparations for safe treatment

There is little preparation required, but we recommend that you wash your hair thoroughly on the morning of the appointment and avoid applying styling products to your scalp. You should also drink plenty of water the day before to make the blood test easier.

The day of treatment

Safe care at the clinic

When you arrive, we will take a standard blood sample from your arm. The blood tubes are then placed in a medical centrifuge to separate the nutrient-rich plasma and platelets from the red blood cells.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

There is no recovery period following the procedure. You can return to work straight away. However, you should avoid washing your hair, doing strenuous exercise or wearing tight-fitting hats for the first 24 hours to allow the plasma to work undisturbed and prevent infection at the injection sites.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

PRP is always administered as a course of treatment, usually comprising three to four sessions at four-week intervals. A few months after your final session, we will book a follow-up appointment to carry out a final assessment of the structure and density of the new hair.

Results of PRP treatment

Stimulating hair growth with PRP or mesotherapy is a physiological process based entirely on your body’s own cell regeneration. Unlike a hair transplant, where hair follicles are moved mechanically, this method involves reactivating your existing hair follicles. The final result of PRP hair regrowth develops very gradually; most people see a reduction in hair loss after a few weeks, whilst new, stronger strands become most noticeable after three to six months.

Our specialists

At The Faculty, a hand-picked team of qualified nurses and doctors with extensive experience in PRP hair treatments works together. Assessing and treating hair loss requires in-depth knowledge of the hair growth phases (anagen, catagen and telogen phases) as well as the blood’s ability to heal tissue. This medical expertise is your greatest assurance of a safe procedure.

Who can undergo the treatment?

The procedure is best suited to healthy individuals over the age of 18 who are experiencing gradual hair thinning, where the hair follicles are still alive but have entered a resting phase. During your consultation, we will ensure that there are no medical contraindications. If you are completely bald (absence of living hair follicles), suffer from certain autoimmune diseases or blood disorders, the method is not effective. As a precaution, we do not treat pregnant or breastfeeding patients.

Risks and complications

As we use only your own body’s material, there is no risk of allergic reactions. Specific PRP hair treatment side effects are therefore extremely rare. The physiologically normal reactions are temporary tenderness of the scalp, mild swelling and possibly a slight headache during the first 24 hours. In very rare cases, a superficial infection may occur if the injection sites are exposed to bacteria before they have healed. The specialist will explain in detail how we work to prevent this.

Other treatments

Sometimes thinning hair is caused by an unbalanced scalp rather than genetics. If you primarily suffer from flaky or extremely dry skin, we recommend a deep scalp cleanse, such as Hydrafacial Keravive, to restore the scalp’s health before starting a course of injections.

Why consider PRP treatment for your hair?

Experiencing sudden or gradual hair loss is common, and the motivation to address it is highly personal. Many people seek treatment for thinning hair to slow down genetic hair loss, whilst others wish to restore their hair’s thickness following pregnancy or a period of extreme stress. We do not judge why you are seeking help. Our focus is on designing a treatment plan based on a clinical assessment of your scalp and the vitality of your hair follicles, which maximises your biological potential.

Frequently asked questions about PRP treatment for hair

Frequently asked questions and answers about PRP treatment for hair

How many treatments are needed to see results?

As hair grows in different cycles, a basic course of three to four treatments, spaced three to four weeks apart, is usually required to stimulate as many hair follicles as possible. After that, a maintenance treatment is recommended every six to twelve months.

Do scalp injections hurt?

The experience of pain varies from person to person. The scalp is rich in nerve endings, which means that some people find the pricks quite intense. However, as we use extremely fine needles and a quick technique, the treatment is usually well tolerated.

Can PRP cure hereditary hair loss?

PRP cannot alter your genetics and is not a "cure". However, it is one of the most effective methods for significantly slowing down the process, preserving the hair you have and stimulating the hair follicles that have not yet died.

What is the difference between PRP and mesotherapy for hair? (mesotherapy for hair in Stockholm)

Whilst PRP uses growth factors from your own blood to regenerate cells, mesotherapy involves injecting a ready-made, medicinal nutrient cocktail (vitamins, peptides, hyaluronic acid) into the scalp. Both are effective, and are sometimes combined for maximum effect.

Why are there price variations for PRP hair treatments on the market?

The price often reflects the type of centrifugation equipment and tubes (kits) used by the clinic. At The Faculty, we use exclusively market-leading, closed medical systems of the highest quality, which guarantee a high concentration of live platelets – a factor that is directly crucial to the outcome.
