What does PRP treatment involve?

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. By centrifuging your own blood, we can isolate and concentrate the platelets that carry the body’s natural growth factors. When this super-concentrated fluid is injected into the skin, it acts as a biological booster that accelerates healing, improves blood flow and can reactivate dormant biological processes, whether the aim is to strengthen hair follicles or smooth the skin.

Our methods for treating hair loss and skin stimulation

We use modern, scientifically proven equipment to extract blood plasma. Your specialist will assess which method is medically best suited to you.

PRP for hair

A proven hair treatment in which your own concentrated blood plasma is injected to stimulate growth and slow hair loss. This method aims to increase blood flow to the scalp and provide dormant hair follicles with new nourishment (hair PRP).

PRP for the face (Vampire treatment)

A powerful skin treatment in which plasma is gently worked into the facial tissue. The method utilises the growth factors in your own blood to stimulate collagen production, which usually results in improved firmness and radiance.

Hair transplant

For patients who have no living hair follicles at all in specific areas, our experts offer surgical hair transplants. This is a precision procedure in which healthy hair follicles, usually taken from the back of the head, are moved to the areas of thinning hair to achieve a permanent result.

Gentle methods

Whether the aim is to stimulate the scalp or provide the face with deep revitalisation, our specialists use refined techniques that minimise stress on the tissue. By using microscopically thin needles or blunt cannulas, we work very gently. A meticulous approach is absolutely crucial to reducing bleeding, minimising swelling and bruising, and ensuring that the concentrated plasma is integrated into precisely the right tissue layer for an even and effective result.

A clinic full of expertise

Undergoing an advanced injection treatment requires a deep understanding of the body’s biology. As a specialist clinic, The Faculty ensures that your PRP treatment is carried out exclusively by qualified healthcare professionals. Our practice is underpinned by rigorous hygiene protocols, open communication and medical safety. We guide you through objective analyses of your skin and hair, so that you always feel confident and well-informed.

Price of PRP treatment

Your exact price (for example, the cost of PRP hair treatment) depends on the area to be treated. For those wondering how much a hair transplant costs, the price is only determined once a surgeon has assessed the extent of the procedure and how many hair follicles need to be moved.

Pre-treatment consultation

Your journey begins with a thorough consultation with one of our specialists. We will analyse your scalp or facial skin, assess your blood circulation and discuss your medical history. You will receive factual information about the procedure, how the plasma works and what expectations are realistic.

After the consultation, you have a statutory cooling-off period of at least 48 hours (which applies to aesthetic injection treatments) to allow you to decide in your own time whether you wish to give your consent.

The Evolution of You

Plasma injection
Step by step

To ensure you feel completely at ease, we have a tried-and-tested and extremely hygienic procedure for handling your blood and administering the injections.

Consultation

Medical assessment and choice of method

Your practitioner will carry out a clinical assessment of your scalp or skin and determine how many treatments are recommended to achieve the desired stimulation.

Preparations

Preparations for safe treatment

Please do not take any fever-reducing or blood-thinning medication in the days leading up to your appointment, as this can impair platelet function. Please make sure your hair is freshly washed if you are having a scalp treatment.

The treatment

Safe care at the clinic

We start by taking a small, standard blood sample from the crook of the arm. This blood is then placed in a specially designed centrifuge for around 10 minutes. The machine separates the nutrient-rich plasma from the red blood cells.

Recovery & healing

Self-care and convalescence guidelines

Whether it’s a facial or a hair treatment, it’s normal to experience slight redness and tenderness immediately afterwards. Avoid washing your hair, wearing a tight-fitting cap or hat, applying make-up or doing any strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours to allow the plasma to work undisturbed.

Monitoring & results

Medical check-up and final assessment

To achieve a noticeable result, a course of three to four treatments at four-week intervals is almost always required. We schedule regular follow-up appointments to monitor the progress of the tissue.

Results following treatment

The results of PRP treatment depend on the vitality of your hair follicles and your age. As the method is based on cell regeneration and the body’s own healing process, the results are gradual. Visible results for the hair usually begin to appear no earlier than three to four months after starting the treatment, once the strands have had time to grow and the tissue has been strengthened. The same principle applies to the skin; cell renewal takes place gradually.

Our specialists in injections

At The Faculty, you will be looked after by a team of qualified doctors and nurses. Handling blood products and administering injections into the complex network of blood vessels in the scalp or face places extremely high demands on medical expertise and hygiene. Their extensive knowledge forms the foundation of your safety.

Who can undergo the treatment?

You must be at least 18 years old, in good health and have realistic expectations. A PRP treatment for hair loss only works if you still have viable, dormant hair follicles remaining. For medical safety reasons, we do not treat patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have active infections in the area or suffer from specific blood disorders. All of this will be discussed in detail during your first visit.

Complications and risks

Many patients ask whether PRP treatment for hair has any side effects. The main advantage of this method is that the product comes from your own body, which completely eliminates the risk of allergic reactions. The harmless and temporary side effects include redness, localised tenderness and possibly small bruises from the injections. As we work in extremely sterile environments, the risk of infection is greatly minimised.

Other treatments for profile and texture

If PRP is not considered the right treatment for your needs, we can offer other proven alternatives. For advanced hair loss where the hair follicles have died, a surgical hair transplant is often the only long-term option. For the face, our experts also offer potent hydrating treatments (such as Profhilo) or biostimulators to rejuvenate the skin from within.

Why have a PRP treatment?

The reasons for seeking treatment for hair loss or skin rejuvenation are highly personal. Many people opt for PRP treatment for their hair because they have noticed their hair thinning over time and wish to stimulate their hair follicles naturally. Others seek PRP treatment for the face (sometimes called a ‘vampire treatment’) to benefit from the body’s own growth factors and thereby strengthen the skin’s underlying structure. It is a matter of your personal choice and how you wish to care for your body. We carefully assess your individual circumstances to create a realistic and effective plan.

Frequently asked questions about PRP and hair loss

Here we have compiled some frequently asked questions about PRP and hair loss

How much does a hair transplant cost compared to PRP?

A PRP treatment costs SEK 4,000 per session and is usually carried out as a course of treatment. A hair transplant is a more extensive surgical procedure that costs considerably more. The exact cost of a hair transplant is determined by the number of hair follicles to be transplanted.

Does PRP treatment work for hair loss?

Yes, scientific studies show that growth factors in plasma can stimulate hair follicles to transition from the resting phase back to the growth phase. The main prerequisite, however, is that there are still viable hair follicles left for the plasma to stimulate.

Does a vampire treatment or PRP for the hair hurt?

The experience of pain varies from person to person. The skin on the scalp is thin and taut, which means you can feel the pricks, but the procedure is over quickly and is well tolerated by the vast majority of people. For PRP treatment on the face, we always offer a topical anaesthetic cream beforehand.

When will I see the results of the treatment?

Cell renewal takes time. Visible results from PRP treatment for the hair or the face usually become apparent no sooner than three to four months after the course of treatment has begun, by which time the hair has had time to grow and the skin has produced new collagen.

How many treatments are needed?

To achieve optimal biological stimulation, our specialists almost always recommend an initial course of three to four sessions, spaced approximately four weeks apart, often followed by an annual maintenance treatment.

Is there blood on the scalp afterwards?

The microscopic pricks may cause a drop of blood to appear, but this is gently wiped away by the practitioner. You won’t go home with a ‘bloody’ scalp; it will simply be slightly red.

Are PRP and vampire therapy the same thing?

Yes, ‘vampire treatment’ is a popular – though somewhat non-medical – term coined by the media for a PRP treatment for the face, precisely because the nutrients are extracted from the patient’s own blood.
