Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
The Faculty offers HBOT treatments.
What is HBOT?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (“HBOT”) involves the patient inhaling oxygen in a pressure chamber with elevated atmospheric pressure.
The treatment causes oxygen to dissolve in the blood plasma in higher concentrations than normal, which can promote healing, fight infections, and restore oxygen deficiency in tissues. By inducing short periods of oxidative stress, the treatment triggers cellular changes in various tissues, optimizes the immune system, selectively reduces senescent cells, and activates stem cells.
HBOT is a well-proven treatment and has been used medically for over fifty years. The treatment is given, among other things, for chronic inflammation, to facilitate wound healing, and to treat radiation damage after cancer treatment.
HBOT has also shown potential for general health effects by counteracting oxidative stress, stimulating tissue regeneration, and counteracting inflammation. HBOT is increasingly used for physical recovery of elite athletes, against age-related ailments, and as a Longevity treatment.
